Indonesia Foreign Minister Attends 4th FEALAC Forum in Tokyo

Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia Dr. R.M. Marty M. Natalegawa arrived in Tokyo following his official visit from Da Nang, Vietnam to attend The 4th Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) Foreign Ministerial Meeting that will commence from 16 to 17 January 2010 in Grand Prince Akasaka, Tokyo. 
The Foreign Minister’s visit to FEALAC marks his first official visit to Japan  since taking office from October 2009. During FEALAC Forum, Minister is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with high level officials from FEALAC’s member countries. 


FEALAC is consist of 15 member countries from Asia (10 ASEAN countries, Australia, China, Japan, Republic of Korea and New Zealand) and 18 Latin American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Republic of Dominica, Equador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela). All countries that have been involved in FEALAC in 1999 mutually cooperates to strengthen ties in the field of economy, politic, diplomacy between East Asia and Latin America as well as promote a mutual understanding and improved cooperation between member countries. 
     
Japan act as host of FEALAC Forum in 2010 will recommend a proposition and a plan to hold a discussion concerning climate change and global economic crisis. The Forum will also cover the discussion of other global issues and seek opportunities for bilateral and regional cooperation. More concrete issues that will be scheduled for discussion are environment and sustainable development and Financial and Economic Crisis and Social Inclusion (Source: Indonesian Embassy, Tokyo).

Number of Sumatra's Death Toll Rises to 609

PADANG, KOMPAS.com - The number of death toll in West Sumatra’s powerful earthquake which struck the province on Wednesday, September 30 last week up to 8 pm on Monday reached 609.
    
The biggest number of dead victims was found in Padang city reaching 242, and in Padang Pariaman district 286, according to data made available at West Sumatra’s Disasters Mitigation Task Force on Monday night.
    
Besides, the number of those suffering from serious injuries was 603, minor ones 2,096 and those missing 345.
The earthquake also destroyed 92,940 houses and damaged 47,287 others.
